Doug & Dave Turner

Problem: The Turner Brothers needed fencing on their hillside property, two and a half thousand hectares in size, while they still had nearly 8,000 cattle grazing on.

Action: As an ex-dairy farmer, David’s experience with livestock meant he could make a plan with the farmers about how best to work around the livestock. He then safely and easily helped manoeuvre animals around the machinery and tools as they worked, without the farmers needing to step in.

Result: A multi-year commitment, the job is now nearly complete. We return every few months for routine maintenance, but other than that, it’s a job well done!

Kevin Chappell

Problem: Our client wanted a curved post and rail fence built in front of their new home. We also had to compete with potential bad weather and difficult soil conditions.

Action: After carefully measuring out our angles and levels, we were able to accurately plan out where each post would be placed.

Result: The end product was fantastic, flowing with the driveway and staying symmetrical with the rest of the house.

Tony Ackermann

Problem: Our client is a busy dairy farmer who needed work done for a cattle underpass. As well as constantly working alongside livestock, we also had to deal with bad weather conditions.

Action: David’s experience with working with cattle and sheep meant we were still able to work to our schedule without any disruption.

Result: The client now has a fantastic underpass that will withstand the elements and heavy use from livestock.

Peter Bayliss

Problem: Our client was building a new petrol station to replace his old one next door. He needed a fence from Rathgen Fencing to separate his property from nearby homes. They also wanted to keep the old petrol station running, so we had to ensure our work didn’t impact the day-to-day running of things.

Action: Working on a petrol station meant there were countless pipes and services underground, so we needed to ensure we planned everything correctly. With the correct planning, everything else fell into place.

Result: Our client was thrilled with the quality of the fence we put up.

Think Water Canterbury

Problem: As the preferred fencing contractor to Think Water Canterbury, they know we can handle whatever fencing job that needs doing. In this case, they needed RHINO fence posts installed in a neat grid for irrigation sprinklers to be put on.

Action: The posts needed to be carefully measured and placed so that the entire field could be covered by the sprinklers. Once we measured our angles and distances, we double-checked that they were in perfectly straight lines before beginning the installation.

Result: Our clients loved the final product, which allowed them to water their entire field from one convenient location.

John Foster

Problem: Our client, a dairy farmer along the banks of the Rakaia River, needed us to completely re-fence his farm when a new centre pivot was installed. We also did a lot of work on his runoff blocks and installed new windbreak cloth around his new house.

Action: To get around the potential disruptions, we worked with John to establish an effective way to manage stock flow while we worked around them.

Result: The client was really appreciative of the work we did for them and the final results came out great.
“We went with Rathgen Fencing as they have a good name in the district as a family and are good hard workers. They are very good. And have great work ethics. I have had them out for a number of jobs on the property. They are always on time and are very reliable. They are good honest hard-working people. They have helped us out with our fencing and stockyards. Their punctual and their workmanship is reliable. And if ever I have had a problem which is hardly ever they come back and fix straight-away.”

“I try to use local businesses and when I went farming these were, and still are, the local contractors. I wouldn’t go anywhere else. They are great. They turn up when they say they will, and do a great job for a good price. We have used them for farm fencing but just of late it was a plank and rail fence around our new house. Their attention to detail and workmanship is great but their speed, well that is something else!”
